There are few more panic-inducing moments in this day and age than suddenly realizing your smartphone is going die without a charger in sight. Amazingly, we used to survive without smartphones, but our modern dependency on those devices means we’re constantly draining precious battery life. You could always keep a big power bank with you, but that’s just one more thing to lug around. For true mobility and peace of mind, you’ll need a battery case. Not only do these battery-infused cases keep your smartphone charged, but they also keep it protected as well. Here’s a list of some of our favorites.

iPhone X – Alpatronix BXX

When you’re dealing with third-party peripherals and Apple products, it’s important to remember Cupertino has a tendency to release updates which spawn the dreaded incompatibility message on-screen. While the Alpatronix BXX isn’t Made for iPhone certified, it is one of only a couple battery cases for the iPhone X to use a certified connector, which is a big help. This 4200mAh battery case will give you an extra full charge and even better, it’s Qi compatible for wireless charging without removing the case.

iPhone X – ZeroLemon Rugged Juicer

A Rugged Juicer might sound like a steroid-addled lumberjack, but it’s actually this very high capacity battery case from ZeroLemon. While the Rugged Juicer isn’t capable of wireless charging—you’ll have to remove the case for that—it does have a massive 8000mAh battery. That’s enough to charge your iPhone X twice, so wireless charging will be the least of your worries. As mentioned above, the Rugged Juicer isn’t Made For iPhone certified, but its connector is Apple certified.

iPhone 8 Plus/7 Plus – Trianium Atomic Pro

TrianiumAtomicPro

Packed with a fat 4200mAh battery, the Trianium Atomic Pro is an excellent battery case for iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 users. You can charge the case and phone together using a micro USB cable, which is kind of a bonus in since you can ditch the Apple-specific Lightning cable. Granted, that also means you can only use Bluetooth headphones, too. But I’ve been using this case for about six months now and couldn’t be happier. And despite the long battery life, it’s still surprisingly slim.

iPhone 8 Plus/7 Plus – Mophie Juice Pack Wireless

If you’re an iPhone 7 Plus user, you might be looking at the new lineup of iPhones this year and feeling sad about wireless charging. Well, be sad no more! The Juice Pack Wireless works with Qi compatible charging pads, and can charge your phone and case. The 2,420mAh battery is significantly smaller than the Trianium above, but this case is also MFi certified, if that helps you sleep at night.

iPhone 8/iPhone 7 – Apple Smart Battery Case

While there’s generally added value and possibly aesthetic advantages to third-party battery cases, for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7, you really can’t go wrong with Apple’s Smart Battery Case. The 2,365mAh battery will almost recharge the battery fully, and it is (obviously) MFi certified. One of the biggest advantages over a third-party case is the inclusion of a Lightning port, so you can use Lighting headphones and earbuds no problem.

Samsung Galaxy S8 – Trianium Atomic Pro

Surprise, it’s another Trianium Atomic Pro case, this time for the Samsung Galaxy S8. With a 4,500mAh battery life, the Atomic Pro will keep you moving without freaking out about not carrying a charger. But when you do charge and sync, this case is fully quick-charge compatible with the phone still in the case. Plus, if anything ever goes wrong, Trianium offers a lifetime warranty.

Google Pixel 2 – ALCLAP Pixel Charger Case

ALCLAPPixel

While most battery cases on this list will simply add a single recharge to your smartphone, the ALCLAP Pixel charger case will actually give you a 150 percent boost, thanks to its 4,000mAh battery. There’s a nice front-facing bumper to keep your screen safe, and this charger is also fully capable of charging the case and your Pixel 2 together with a single USB-C cable. And while it’s certain to add some extra girth to your Pixel, this case is still lightweight and has a nice soft-touch feel.

LG V30 – Newdery Slim Charging Case

NewderyV30

There is a surprising dearth of battery cases for the LG V30, but this slim charger from Newdery is a solid option. It isn’t compatible with wireless charging, but the 4,200mAh battery will recharge your phone completely on the go. There’s a lifetime warranty and you can sync and charge your V30 without removing it from the case. But the most impressive feature of this case is its small size, adding just .4 of an inch to the V30’s profile.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – ZeroLemon SlimPower

The second ZeroLemon case to show up on this list, this SlimPower charger for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a perfect way to squeeze more juice out of that smartphone without adding a crazy amount of bulk. The manufacturer claims the SlimPower will add 48 more hours of talk time and over 74 hours of extra music—that should make even a ludicrously long hike bearable. And thankfully, you get all that extra power without making your Note 8 look as big as an 80s car phone.
