The Sea of Thieves closed beta is in full swing, with those plucky pirates who have finagled their way in having a whale of a time on the high seas.
Warning: Shipmates who want to avoid potential spoilers should make a hard turn to starboard now.
As well as a host of NPCs, treasure maps, landmarks, weapons, and the usual bells and whistles you’d expect to find, there are some notable features that look to improve on gameplay and the overall experience.
In particular, the Kraken, with “ship wrapping tentacles” has caught our eye. The looming threat of being dragged down to Davy Jones’ Locker is sure to make things interesting.
There are four separate maps listed, indicating that we’ll be heading beyond the lush Caribbean landscape we’ve seen so far.
Ship customisation is also going to be something you’ll be able to mess around with, swapping out the livery, mast, wheel and more, as well as the figureheads and cargo.
A few more instruments have been listed in addition to the beta’s concertina and hurdy gurdy. Players can potentially look forward to having a strum on the banjo, ukulele and fiddle, as well as playing drums and a voice box.
The closed beta has had its share of bugs and errors and to make up for it, Rare has extended the beta to run until January 31. If you’re taking part and want a few tips and tricks to start you off, we’ve got you covered.
