A new character will reportedly be added to The New Mutants during reshoots this summer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox’s upcoming X-Men spinoff “will undergo a round of additional photography this summer that will insert a new character into the thriller.” The New Mutants was previously stated to open in theaters this April, but last month the film was delayed to February 22, 2019.
With regard to how the Disney-Fox merger is affecting the studio, a Fox insider told THR, “We actually have way more in development and production in Marvel IP than at any point in the history of the studio. There’s been zero slowdown on that front given Disney.”
In addition to X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Deadpool 2, both of which open in theaters later this year, Fox has plenty more Marvel Comics-inspired films planned. Filming on Drew Goddard’s Deadpool spinoff X-Force is scheduled to begin this October, a “secret” Silver Surfer movie written by Brian K. Vaughn is reportedly in the works, and there are plans for a Doctor Doom movie from Legion showrunner Noah Hawley.
THR also reports the search for a director for the Channing Tatum-led Gambit movie is underway and a new draft of the script is expected next month.
