The Dora the Explore live-action movie has found its lead.
“I’m honored and excited to bring Dora to life,” Moner said in a statement. “I grew up watching the show, and for me, especially as a Latina, Dora was an amazing role model – she is a strong, adventurous and fun-loving girl. I can’t wait to put on the backpack and begin her next adventure!”
James Bobin is directing from a script by Muppets writer Nick Stoller. Michael Bay is producing the project through his production company Platinum Dunes with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. The film hits theaters on August 2, 2019.
The animated series ran for 172 episodes from 2000 until 2014. The movie, just like the show, will follow Dora going on adventures with her best friend Boots and her cousin Diego.
